One of a few artists that had work present in the Gallery was artist Diego Palacios who is a sculpture major here at CSULB. Diego was not present in the gallery but I did get insight from another CSULB artist named Daniel who did the set up for the Exhibit. The theme of the exhibit was supposed to be a different perspectives type of environment.
The art piece that I focused on was the piece with the three industrial looking chairs made out of medal with the screen in the background with dogs roaming about in the video. Each chair had it’s own color. One blue, one yellow, and one green. The chairs were also made for rocking and were there for on lookers to take a seat in them.
While talking to Daniel I learned that Diego’s idea for the art piece was to symbolize a casual setting. It is meant to be seen as something that is routine, like an everyday look on life and living. The chairs that people are actually allowed to be sat in are meant to invite you into the art work.
I see Diego’s piece as very symbolic and quite creative. The idea of having chairs arranged in the way they were with a family like setting going on in the video on screen above the chairs really set a unique tone. It really makes you feel at home and does make you feel like you can be apart of the art.
